  • the m.a.x. museo operates in the service of the community and the region
  • it is committed to the preservation, conservation, management, valorisation and enhancement of its permanent collection of works of art in the field of graphics, design, photography and visual communication in the broad sense. Within this field, it also undertakes the conservation, management, valorisation and enhancement of its “Archive of Collections” of graphic, design, photographic and visual communication materials in the broad sense
  • following a specific resolution of the Municipality of Chiasso, it declares its artistic and historical heritage inalienable together with all the works that will be acquired over the years
  • as an international cultural institute, the m.a.x. museo promotes, organises and conducts studies and research into the artistic heritage of the applied arts
  • it fosters a multidisciplinary scholarly dialogue involving all qualified subjects on important themes related to the art of graphics, design, photography and all forms related to visual communication
  • it is also a venue for continuous high-level university and para-university training, promoting and fosters a common collaborative relationship with institutions of advanced scholarly, academic, educational and museological importance, with the aim of creating networks, groupings and consortia capable of presenting current activities and projects of national and international scope
  • it favours, promotes and conducts the dissemination at all levels of the initiatives bound up with its activities; it continuously organises educational activities and has a particular interest in involving students of all educational levels in the region
  • it operates in compliance with a model of organization and international museum operating standards, including quality controls and certification of administrative compliance with the correct preservation of artworks
  • it observes the Code of Ethics issued by ICOM (the International Council of Museums), of which it is a member.
