The International Centre for Art and Graphics (CIAG) was founded at the end of 2023 on the initiative of the Scientific Committee of the m.a.x. museo and the Municipality of Chiasso, with the aim of promoting the rich art and graphics collections of the Municipality of Chiasso and the m.a.x. museo itself.
These collections have been built up over the years thanks to bequests from renowned artists and designers, acquisitions of works of art by art lovers, philanthropists and the Friends of the m.a.x. museo association. Thanks to the important heritage that has been built up over the years, the Chiasso Cultural Centre has become a centre of attraction at Swiss and international level for topics related to graphic design, design and visual communication. Every year, numerous museums and institutions request loans of works from the m.a.x. museum archives for their exhibitions, confirming the value of the materials and their representative number.
The CIAG is therefore:
-a space dedicated to graphic design, for the purposes of documenting, cataloguing and disseminating the cultural heritage of the Chiasso Cultural Centre
-an area focused on research, educational support, and the planning and organisation of exhibitions
-a place for the development of specific museum and artistic projects, in partnership with other museums and educational institutions
As such, it is aimed at anyone who wishes to consult the works for study purposes: students, doctoral students, scholars, researchers, graphic designers and professionals,
curators and individuals interested in the Archives for scientific reasons, teachers.
